FASTRACK LAUNCHES HIGH SPEED RAIL PROPOSAL FOR SYDNEY - MELBOURNE CORRIDOR

Fastrack Australia launched a major report advocating High Speed Rail (HSR) at a presentation to Rail Futures Inc members on 24 February 2023.

The report proposes the staged construction of a new and modified route using HSR train sets capable, initially, of up to 250km/hr.

The first stage would be from Southern Sydney to the Southern Highlands.

Subsequent stages will extend the route to Canberra and Melbourne.

This will ultimately provide an efficient and attractive passenger travel time of 4 hours between Sydney and Melbourne. It will provide an alternative to plane, car and bus travel for domestic travel and overseas tourists.

The route will also be used for rail freight, cutting freight travel times by some 40%.

The train sets will use energy sources that create zero emissions.
