Get HSR moving faster

We have joined with the Australian High Speed Rail Association to submit 10 budget recommendations to speed up the implementation of high speed rail in Australia, by:

  • Developing a national plan of settlement, providing a national vision for our cities and regions across the next fifty years.

  • Conducting a study to establish the economic case for a national rail network connecting all regional cities in the southeast of mainland Australia.

  • Developing an overarching national rail plan for the implementation of high speed rail interconnected with regional faster rail in the southeast mainland of Australia.

  • Commence the planning for the next stages of high speed rail to be implemented in the corridors connecting Melbourne to Sydney and Sydney to Newcastle.

  • Investigate a high-speed corridor through Sydney from Macarthur through Glenfield, Liverpool, Rosehill, and Epping to the Hawkesbury River, with the central station in the proposed re-development of Rosehill racecourse.

  • Undertake a detailed analysis of the potential to significantly increase rail freight in the Sydney – Melbourne corridor using the high speed rail line.

  • Commence negotiations with state governments to implement national rail governance arrangements that establishes a single national rail network for both freight and passenger services across Australia.

  • Develop cost-sharing arrangements with the State and Territory governments for major transport investments based on land value capture and beneficiary pays principles.

  • Examine the establishment of a National Passenger Rail Operator to provide regular inter-state regular passenger services.

  • Establish a project to plan and build the section of high speed rail from Canberra to Goulburn and Yass, including associated urban development in Canberra, Goulburn and Yass.
